Honors Students invited to Bush Fellows Weekend
The Bush School atTexas A&M University hosted six honors students from Prairie View A&M University, Nov. 9-10.
Named after George H. Bush, the international and public affairs school of TAMU the Bush School was founded in 1997 on the former president's vision, "let future generations understand the burden and the blessings of freedom let them say we stood where duty required us to stand."
Dean Andrew Card heads the school during Ryan Crocker's two year leave of absence to assist President Obama with Afghanistan.
The honors students were invited to College Station to gain insight on the master's degree program in public service administration and international affairs.
"It opened up my mind to the possibility of a career in the fields of public service and international affairs," said Jarrod Hodge, a senior psychology student.
Hodge and his honors colleagues, Breanna Green, junior psychology student, Alejandra Castillo, senior international business student, Shadana Chaney, senior psychology student, Michaela Puryear, senior psychology student, and BriAna K. Franklin, senior communication student, were able to learn what questions to ask when choosing a graduate program like what scholars are available to the school, ways to operate the theory discussed, and lastly what is their alumni placement is like.
Program director Dr. Charles Herman opened the weekend by saying, "At the Bush School, we have a blended faculty with a shared interest in public service."
"I came into the program with an open mind because I was unsure how the weekend would play out. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had a great time during the Bush Fellows Weekend," said Green.
Distinguished yet differing academics like Dr. Domonic Bearfield, Lori L. Taylor, Gina Yannitell Reinhardt extended their Friday to welcome the Bush Fellows and began to encourage students to decide if a master's in public service administration or international affairs was a good choice for them.
"After spending this past weekend at the Bush School, I am completely sure what I would like to do after graduation. I would definitely apply to the Bush School in the future to study Public Service Administration," said Chaney.
Prairie View students were accompanied by several students from neighboring universities from the Texas A&M University system like TAMU-Texarkana, Corpus Cristi, and Commerce, as well as West Texas A&M University.
The trip served as a great learning utensil for students providing an opportunity to gain insight on what a master's degree in public service administration and international affairs has to offer them.
Puryear said, "The Bush Fellows Weekend was very informational and enlightening."
