Students talk about sex
Panthers Promoting Healthy Decisions joined with the active Greek life on campus to host an interactive seminar, "Sex with the Greeks," Wednesday, Sept. 28.
The purpose of the seminar was to get students talking about the misconceptions of sex, male/female relationships, and to educate them on safe sex.
The host, senior psychology major, Jazmyne Joseph, posed a series of questions to the audience and allowed them to respond. A panel of eight Greek organization members were also given the opportunity to voice their opinions.
Students became riled when sexually transmitted diseases were brought up. Two that have been publicized lately, the Human Papillomavirus and cervical cancer, introduced a lot of questions from the audience and served as a big teaching moment for PhDs.
"I learned a lot more information about HPV," said junior accounting major Damien Young. "I had no idea that men could carry it, pass it along to a woman, and have her show signs of it immediately, while the man that gave it to her may never show any signs of having it, or it could become present for him in his later years."
Students were told that preventive measures and types of contraception are the only ways to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies and some diseases.
"I think that students really need to know about the female condom," said Ta'Mara Davis, a sophomore business management major. "It's an alternative to the male condom and students should definitely know how to use them."
With a good turnout of more than 100 students, PHDs want to continue educating students.
