Fans and alumni filled the streets early Saturday morning, showing their school spirit as they witnessed the annual Homecoming parade.
The parade is one of the many traditional events held on campus to celebrate homecoming.
George Wright served as this year's Grand Marshal and also celebrated his 10th year as president of the university.
The Prairie View A&M Marching Storm opened the parade playing the traditional song "I'm So Glad I go to PVU" as the Black foxes marched along side of them.
The royal homecoming court graced the parade on a royal purple and gold float as the outer court rode in individual vehicles representing their organizations and clubs.
The PVAMU cheerleaders, Gold Members Club (GMC) and Baptist Student Movement Choir (BSM) were a couple of the campus organizations involved in this event.
Additionally, Prairie View's office of student affairs participated in the parade.
Students from South Oak Cliff and Jack Yates high school came to show their support, as their band, cheerleaders, and drill teams marched in the parade.
"The parade was interesting, exciting, and fun," said freshman nursing major Khadijah Roker.
Junior juvenile justice major Lacey Webb felt that the homecoming parade was a necessary event, and should be a more highly publicized part of homecoming.
"The homecoming parade is really nice. It is where you can show your school spirit if you do not get to show it often. I also, I like how the alumni are proud of their school," said Webb.
Students as well as alumni were thrilled to be on the hill to celebrate and show their school spirit for PVAMU homecoming.
Alumni Wilbert Shields, class of '62, was overwhelmed with excitement for homecoming.
"Homecoming is great. After 50 years, I am happy to be here and alive to take part in another homecoming," said Shields.
