Upgrades galore

New housing amenities were created, adding another phase to University Village, titled Phase 6. Construction began in the spring semester of 2011 and wrapped up just in time for students to move into buildings 49 and 50, located within the gates of Phase 3, at the beginning of this semester.

These much needed renovations and restorations have been a never ending process over the past 11 years, and are a main focus of the campus among administrators and Student Government Association President Jarren Small.

Initial plans to begin this year's upgrades were set in motion by Larry J. Watson, vice president of the physical plant. Watson spoke highly of the details and additions throughout the W.R. Banks Building, Nathelyne Kennedy Architectural Building, Wilhelmina Delco Building, and Hilliard Hall.

Watson stated, "Hilliard Hall is a 72-year-old building, so we planned to do upgrades. When funds became available we started working on the necessary improvements."

These renovations include a new writing center, where students can receive help with essays, assignments, and resumes and a new sitting area where students can study or relax between classes.

Watson said, "These upgrades are important because of our customers, who are the students. These upgrades provide comfortable, safe facilities for our students who come here to learn."
