Track and field finishes number 2
Prairie View's Men Track and field finish second for the second year in a row in the 2013 SWAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans, La., losing by 16 points.
After being down in third place Saturday the Panthers fought back into second place on Sunday after junior Pierre Shepherd won his respected event jumping a height of 6-8.
Henry Brown (13-3.5) and James Bickham (12-11.5) claimed second and fourth place in the pole vault while Preston Woodard finished fourth in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles. Shanton Gore placed fourth in the event with a mark of 47-2.25.
Junior pole-vaulter Bickham said, "The experience of competing with my team was great this season and we plan on taking it all next year."
Lucio Rosas took the bronze in the 5,000 meter run clocking a time of 16:00.45. Woodard marked number five on the NCAA Division I West Qualifying List.
The Panthers now turn their attention to the national stage as several athletes will compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, beginning May 23. The list of eligible participants for the event will be announced May 16.
