Men's cross country takes second at championships
In an uphill battle, Prairie View A&M University Men's Cross Country team took second for the second year in a row in Clinton, Miss.
The Panthers finished behind the the Devils of Mississippi Valley State University at the Mississippi Colleges Choctaw Trails. Losing to the Mississippi Valley Devils by two points every runner from Prairie View ran a personal best for the season. The Panthers were in great a position throughout the men's 8k run with three runners in the top five positions of the race.
Making his first SWAC appearance freshman Dinaoli Adam finished in the top ten running a time of 26:51.14 behind junior Abel Simie who ran a time of 26:42.00. Both runners recieved all-conference awards for their strong performances throughout the season.
Sophomore Lucio Rosas finished second out of 59 runners earning the title of first team all-conference running a time of 26:16.75.
The Delta Devils won their third cross country SWAC championship, including their second in three years.
MVSU had three top-five finishers during the championships which was the key to their narrow victory over the Panthers.
In individual competition, MVSU senior Daniel Kibetearned first place, also claiming SWAC Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year.
The Panther cross country team looks to be back in contention in the 2013 season, as they have several key performers returning.
