Panthers bounce back strong
The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team started its home opener on Nov. 12, against the Schreiner Crusaders. Losing their season opener the
Panthers started this game firing on all cylinders with a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes.
Winning by a demanding 27, point margin the Panthers did not trail at any point of the game. The strategic full court press of the Panthers made it nearly impossible for the Crusaders to get the ball down the court without it being touched by a Prairie View defender. The 100-73 victory was a dominant one for the Panthers expressing the capability of the offensive weapons they possess.
With great shot selection the Panthers managed to shoot an exceptional 60 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three point mark, and not to mention there 72 percent shooting from the charity strike.
Senior Forward Demondre Chapman led all scorers with a career high 30 points in the game and an impressive 11-15 shooting from the field. While his teammates were reeking havoc in the paint.
Junior Guard Montrael Scott had himself a substantial game as well, recording his first double double of the season with 10 boards and 19 points off an accurate 70 percent shooting. AJ Myers of the Crusaders had a team high 23 points himself with 9 of his points coming from behind the arc.
The Panthers had four players with double digit points and out rebounded their opponents by a total of 13 boards.
The Prairie View bench played a key roll in the victory outscoring the Crusaders by 11 points. The Panthers also had an overwhelming 19 plus advantage in the paint.
Overall, this was a statement game that showed how dangerous the Panthers can be and showcased the potential they have to exceed expectation.
The Panthers will host Sam Houston State for their second home game on Thursday November 14, 2013.
The Panthers home debut was one to remember.
