Panthers tame Jaguars in close battle
The Lady Panthers fought hard for a 3-1 win over Southern University as the team attack percentage hit a high of .206 with three players registering kills in the double digits.
Senior middle blocker Janette Batista and junior outside hitter Charae Caldwell hustled offensively, combining for 21 kills. Batista put down 12 of those kills and made a huge impact defensively with four digs and three total blocks.
Freshman Lenicia Tyson turned the game into a career-high with 14 kills off a .400 attack percentage topped off with five digs. She finished with an almost identical game as junior outside hitter Candyce Alexander, who also registered 14 kills on a .400 attack percentage with eight digs. Both players accounted for 15.5 points for the Lady Panthers as they each put down one solo block and a block assist.
Senior setter Kelsey Espinosa put things in motion and came through with a season-high of 48 assists to go along with five digs and three kills. Espinosa and Alexander have been in synch over the last five games and seem to thrive when the other person plays well. Alexander has averaged a career-best of 13.4 kills per match in her last five matches. This coincides with a season best average of 39 assists per match for Espinosa over a five-match span. Lady Panthers won With a 25-21, 25-15, 25-22, 25-15 win over southern.
